Reading homework: Read 30 minutes each night to someone. I know that some teachers require 20 minutes of reading but I require 30. The extra practice will help your child to get caught up faster. Parents, please make sure that your child is reading something on their level-not too hard, not too easy.
To improve fluency at home:
Make sure that your child is reading on their reading level-this is not necessarily the same as their grade level. I would be happy to help you know what kind of books to look for.

Ask your child questions as they read to you. The best kind of questions can are who, what, where, when or why. Not really listening close enough to what they are reading? That's fine, you're busy too. Just ask them, "What just happened on that page?"
